Carousel 7 Long Term Support Plan and FAQs

Greetings Carousel 7 Customers! After 23 years of selling on-premise digital signage CMS software we have decided to begin the process of moving our on-premise offering, Carousel 7, to End-of-Life (EOL) status. Each one of our thousands of Carousel 7 customers are very important to us, and we want to assure you that you'll be well taken care of as we move Carousel 7 into long term support.  We're thankful you've supported us over the years, and we are committed to continuing to support you while being completely transparent about our plans for the future.

As you may have noticed, we've been focusing much of our efforts recently on Carousel Cloud.  This direction was ultimately determined based on our goal to deliver the best customer experience and deliver continual value.  We believe the cloud platform best positions us to accomplish that mission going forward.

2021

End-of-life Announcement (EOL)

November 1, 2020 through Dec 31, 2021

Software Maintenance:

  • Periodic firmware releases for BrightSign players.
  • Support for new BrightSign hardware models when released.
  • Security patches when identified.
  • P1 bug fixes.


Technical Support Offered:

  • Current support levels available.
  • Active support plans honored.
  • Support plans sold or renewed for maximum 1-year term.
  • Support assistance services are sold and delivered.

2022

End of
Software Support (EOSS)

Technical Support (EOTS)

Software Maintenance:

  • No new software releases will be issued.

  • Email support ends. Legacy KB/docs will remain on website.
  • Active support plans honored until expiration.
  • Support plans are no longer sold or renewed.
  • Support assistance services no longer sold or delivered.

Purchasing Options:

  • No licenses will be sold

FAQs for End Users

Once Carousel 7 is EOL'ed, will my Carousel system still work?

Yes, your Carousel 7 software will continue to work just as it has for years.

Will I still get software updates for Carousel 7?

We will continue to issue maintenance updates to resolve bugs and security concerns through the end of 2022. These releases will not include new feature updates.

Will there be any new features added to Carousel 7 during this transition?

No. The feature set that is present in Carousel 7 today will remain in place. Features will neither be added nor removed. Consider it like owning a car that runs reliably for years, regardless of whether next year's model is launched with new features. If you'd prefer to always have the latest and greatest features, we'd encourage you to consider Carousel Cloud. Contact us for details!

EOL, EOSS, EOTS oh my! What to all these terms really mean?

These are essentially "stages" in our multi-year end-of-life plan for Carousel 7. During the "EOL Announced" phase, we are not adding new features but will be maintaining the software and providing technical support. During the "EOSS" phase we will be ramping down software maintenance releases to critical issues only, while continuing to provide technical support. The "EOTS" phase is where software maintenance releases will no longer be issued, and technical support will be limited to our existing knowledge base only. In all cases, regardless of phase, we will be honoring active support plans until their expiration.

What if I need to add player licenses to my system, what are my options?

Current customers can continue to purchase expansions (new players) and software upgrades to the most recent version of Carousel 7 until 2023.

But I love Carousel, and my team already knows how to use it! Is there any way to avoid having to switch to something else?

We strongly suggest looking into Carousel Cloud. If you're familiar with Carousel 7 you'll be right at home in Carousel Cloud. Plus, it allows our dedicated team of Carousel Experts to deliver all the latest Carousel features to you, while relieving your team from needing to maintain and update your own servers and IT infrastructure. It’s a win-win!

Since I'm an existing customer, can I get a discount for switching to Cloud?

In many cases, yes! Reach out to our sales team and we'll work with you on it... tell 'em the Carousel 7 FAQ sent you!

This new Cloud product sounds great, how do I get switched over?

We have a straightforward process to switch from 7 to Cloud. You can DIY-it or have our Pro Services team do it for you! In either case, get in touch and we'll get things started.

Will there be an perpetually licensed replacement for Carousel 7 in the future?

It's not likely. We feel that the subscription model does a better job of incentivizing us to have a laser focus on continually delivering a valuable service to you. We love the idea that we need to earn your business every month!

If I need to update Windows on my Carousel 7 server, will it still work with Carousel 7?

As new versions of Windows are released, we evaluate them for applicability. And if it's determined to be necessary, we will issue maintenance updates to the Carousel software as needed until 2023.

I run a TV station, how will this affect my Cablecast system?

If you are still running Carousel at your TV station we would recommend upgrading to CablecastCG. Reach out the the Cablecast team at sales@cablecast.tv for more info!

FAQs for Resellers

We will stop selling licenses for NEW Carousel 7 systems starting January 1, 2021. If you have a customer who wants to process a purchase of Carousel 7 after this date you must register the deal.

Prior to December 31st, 2020, resellers must communicate via email which Carousel 7 deals they expect to close in 2021.

Eligibility is based on answers to the following:

  • Is the deal with a new Carousel 7 customer?
  • Is the deal in a late sales stage (Waiting on Decision or PO)?
  • What reason(s) did the customer communicate for why they can’t go with Carousel Cloud?
  • Is the budget allocated for the quote?
  • Has the customer communicated that they have chosen Carousel via email to Carousel or Reseller?
  • What is the purchase date?

Resellers will be required to answer all of these qualifications via email to hold a Carousel 7 deal for 2021.
